The Story Behind Two Monkeys and a Computer

People often ask us why we're called Two Monkeys and a Computer. The short answer is that we believe technology should be creative, approachable, and maybe even a little fun. The longer answer starts years before the company existed.
Before Two Monkeys and a Computer was established in 2013, our careers took us in different directions. My background was rooted in information technology, where I spent years leading projects, solving technical challenges, and helping businesses navigate complex systems. Along the way, I developed an appreciation for design, but my love of comedy began much earlier. As a child, I was always drawn to making people laugh, telling stories, and finding humour in everyday situations. Years later, that childhood interest led me to explore stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy. My business partner, Daryl, built his career in software development and enterprise technology, combining technical expertise with a talent for solving complex problems. Looking back, those experiences may have seemed unrelated, but today they shape everything we do.
As our careers evolved, we began to notice something. Technology was becoming more powerful and more accessible, yet it often felt less approachable. Business owners were expected to build websites, understand search engine optimization, manage hosting, troubleshoot technical issues, and somehow still find time to run their businesses. We believed there had to be a better way.
That's why we started Two Monkeys and a Computer. We wanted to create a company that combines technical expertise with thoughtful design, clear communication, and a genuine interest in helping people succeed. We don't believe a website is simply a collection of pages. It's often the first impression someone has of your business, your brand, or your story. Technology provides the foundation, design creates the experience, and communication gives it personality.
Whether we're launching a brand-new website, redesigning an existing one, or providing ongoing support, our goal is always the same: to make technology feel less intimidating. We enjoy working with entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, and small businesses because we understand that not everyone speaks the language of technology, and they shouldn't have to. Instead of overwhelming our clients with technical jargon, we focus on listening, collaborating, and building solutions that make sense for their goals.
This blog is an extension of that philosophy. Here, we'll share practical advice, lessons we've learned, and insights on website design, branding, user experience, technology, entrepreneurship, and the creative thinking that ties them all together. Some posts will come from years spent working in IT, others from our experiences as business owners, and occasionally from lessons learned through design or even the comedy stage. Whatever the topic, our hope is that you'll leave with a new idea, a fresh perspective, or simply the confidence to take the next step online.
